DAR ES SALAAM, October 19, 2026 — betPawa’s Locker Room Bonus (LRB) programme has paid a total of TSh 55.4 million directly to players and coaching staff during the 2026 Dar es Salaam Basketball League (BDL) season, rewarding teams for their victories in the men’s and women’s competitions.

According to LRB statistics, the programme recorded 624 bonus payments following 39 victories across the Men’s Dar es Salaam Basketball League (MBDL) and the Women’s Dar es Salaam Basketball League (WBDL).

Each victory triggered 16 payments to players and coaching staff, with eligible recipients receiving their bonuses directly after the final whistle.

Of the total amount paid, TSh 29.82 million went to teams competing in the women’s league, while TSh 25.6 million was distributed to teams in the men’s competition.

The season concluded with Dar City defending their MBDL title after defeating Stein Warriors 3–0 in the finals, while Reel Dream Queens won their first WBDL championship after sweeping Tausi Royals by the same margin.

The men’s final was played on October 18 at the International School of Tanganyika (IST) grounds in Masaki, Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s Vice President, Deogratius Ndejembi, attended the event, which also featured a halftime performance by Bien, a former member of the music group Sauti Sol.

BDL Chairperson Shendu Mwangalla said the partnership with betPawa had added value to the competition by motivating players and strengthening competition throughout the season.

“We are very pleased to renew our agreement with betPawa because this sponsorship has brought significant value to our league. It has motivated players to compete harder in every game and increased the level of competition throughout the season,” he said.

Meanwhile, betPawa Regional Manager for East and Southern Africa, Bwalya Noah, said the Locker Room Bonus programme was part of the company’s commitment to recognising athletes’ contributions to sports development across Africa.

“LRB stands as one of the major sports development initiatives in Africa,” he said.

The programme uses the digital pawaPass system to facilitate direct bonus payments, verify transactions and allow players to track the amounts received, payment times and the victories associated with their bonuses.

Through the initiative, betPawa continues to provide performance-based bonuses to players and coaching staff across various African leagues, with the aim of ensuring that team victories translate into direct financial rewards for those involved.
